Heart Age Estimated Using Explainable Advanced Electrocardiography

Home - Blog Detail

Electrocardiographic (ECG) Heart Age conveying cardiovascular risk has been estimated by both Bayesian and artificial intelligence approaches. We hypothesised that explainable measures from the 10-s 12-lead ECG could successfully predict Bayesian 5-min ECG Heart Age.

👉 The MESI mTABLET ECG offers wireless digital 12-lead ECG measurements, instant result sharing for a second opinion, and a number of advanced analysis options.

Cardiovascular disease is an important mortality contributor. The related pathological processes often start early and deteriorate silently for years. According to this study, ‘heart age’ can be accurately estimated from a 10-s 12-lead ECG. Contrasted with the patient’s chronological age, it could be a strong incentive for patients in terms of lifestyle changes and medication compliance, similarly to ‘lung age’ with smokers. Calculated on the basis of Bayesian techniques, #ECG-based heart age could now be more readily implemented in clinical practice.

Cardiovascular disease is a significant contributor to mortality, with related pathological processes often beginning early and progressing silently for many years1,2,3. Many risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease are lifestyle-related4. Fortunately, several are modifiable, and risk can therefore be reduced, for example by smoking cessation, dietary changes and increased physical activity
